Spring came quickly after a long cold winter. It feels like the leafs popped over night and now we can barely see the chickens and pigs on their hill side homes.

Living out here feels very comforting to me, like coming home. In the city I was always bored, out here - boredom doesn't exist. There is always work to do.

There are:

the essentials like making sure we have enough firewood split and stacked to dry for the winter and making sure the animals have everything they need

the infrastructure / future proofing projects like planting fruit trees, building garden beds and compost rolling

the beautification work like cleaning up the land, planting flower gardens and making our property and home look nice on top of functional

A lot of the time I find that many tasks over-lap, for example, when building the garden beds we are making the plot borders from downed limbs, which also results in a cleaner and more beautiful property and the sod the cut out gets re-purposed for desired lawn areas or pig food.

Sometimes the list of to-do's and want-to-do's is so long that all I can focus on is what hasn't gotten done. More and more I find that if I can just take a moment to breathe and slow down, I can focus on what we have already done, which is a lot.

Even a marathon is run one step at a time. Eventually though when you look back you won't even see the starting line.
